When you think about tariffs, they are only applicable if you are buying new. According to a recent report, “3 Things the Middle Class Won’t Be Able to Afford if Trump Imposes Tariffs,” the Middle Class will not be able to afford electronics, cars and home appliances because they are all made with parts sourced from the nations he is attempting to tariff. However what is overlooked are the large number of used cars, electronics and home appliances, so if you are in the recycling business, get ready as you can refurbish old and existing home appliances, computers electronicics and cars and earn a pretty nice profit to counter the tariffs. Many of these items are even available for free on Craigslist and elsewhere.
We really need to live more of a practical life to take a look at what we have, inventory it and see what it is that we really need, so perhaps we have plenty and we just don’t know it yet. This spring and summer I would take time to go through your garage and identify what you have that is usable and see where you are spending your money to find ways to save. Do we really need three toaster ovens? We can probably sell one in a Garage sale and that counters the President’s tarrif idea as you can sell your toaster oven and earn a nice little income and give someone else in the Middle Class who could not afford to pay full price for their toaster oven a better deal than they would find in the store, with the higher electronics prices.
This can be done with E-Waste recycling as well. Why buy a new computer that has been tariffed when you can buy one at a recycler for $300 and it just takes a little more work to configure as I have done with my own home personal computer. You can buy cheap and still get good use out of a computer. We just have to find our ways to save and serve the Middle Class, and recycling is a great way to do that. Also car maintenance is important to attempt to keep your car as long as you possibly can. Consider visiting Jiffy Lube and servicing your vehicle on time and taking time out to care for your car, so that you can enjoy it. Even painting an older vehicle as well as cleaning it can help to protect it and these tariffs may increase the value of used vehicles, so Alaska may have a serious benefit with its surplus of used cars that could be put up for auction and sold to the lower 48. You should see the driveways full of used cars and with thr tariffs, he may be enabling us to sell these used cars to counter those tariffs. The only challenge will be the parts it takes to repair the vehicles that could be sourced from other vehicles or hopefully in the United States of America. In that way we could use recycling to drive our own manufacturing. I am running for Senate in 2026, and intend to use my ideas to help the Middle Class.
We can save and earn more money with recycling and these tariffs may assist us to do more of that.
